Lanae Rivers-Woods,

Business and Management Consultant


Lanae co-founded Power of Basics because of her interest in applying business constructs to industries people don’t see as business. For Lanae, business is universal - no matter how difficult your product or service, there are always ways to do better business by addressing the basics. With a degree in sociology from Lipscomb University, Lanae sees business as an opportunity to care for people, helping them address the hard decisions they need to make in order to fulfill their creative potential. Lanae is a co-founder of the La Familia Gallery cooperative and the developer of Scene in Seattle, a news feed that tracks the latest in the Seattle art world. Between projects, Lanae creates visual art and is writing the second part of her Chasing Tales trilogy.




Kate Protage,

Marketing / Public Relations Consultant


Kate brings seasoned marketing and management experience to Power of Basics. At Wunderman in San Francisco, Kate managed the development of marketing campaigns for QuickBooks, iGo and Command Audio. She was was a core member of the team that conducted the award-winning launch of the Lincoln LS. After moving to Seattle, Kate joined Piraeus Data as Senior Marketing Manager with responsibility for managing marketing for Microsoft clients. Kate joined Power of Basics in 2009 is now an artist with  the La Familia Gallery cooperative. She loves the immediacy of working with small businesses, and enjoys understanding how businesses work so she can structure marketing approaches properly.



Rebeqa Rivers,

Efficiency and Process Consultant


Rebeqa co-founded Power of Basics because of her passion for “seeing people thrive from the ground up.” Rebeqa believes business problems must be addressed by building up the people who make up a business. A graduate of Wheaton College’s Conservatory of Music, Rebeqa has combined her passion for the arts, business and people by co-founding a cooperative-based art gallery and by founding Latitude x Longitude, a steampunk-themed indie band. Through these projects, Rebeqa has acquired a first-hand knowledge of sub-culture marketing and a passion for building small business systems that keep business organized and that deliver actionable information in the midst of a creative and rapidly changing environment.


Nate Jones,

Financial / Logistics Consultant


Nate joins Power of Basics in 2010 with experience in market positioning, strategic planning, finance and business efficiency. He is passionate about aligning business realities so that owners, staff and the community can flourish. Nate brings an international perspective to Power of Basics through his work with LEAD in Bangkok, Thailand and across Asia. Nate recently founded Coffee Catcher, LLC, a Seattle-based business dedicated to taking the mess out of the french press coffee experience. Nate received his BA in International Relations from Wheaton College in 2005. He and his wife live in Belltown, where he is working on his first novel.
